Third Party Testing

3RD PARTY SITE TESTING SUPPORT FOR KONIFER PRODUCTS

An Educational Guide for Canadian Customers
Understanding 3rd Party Site Testing

On many Canadian projects, independent testing agencies are engaged to verify the performance of installed window and façade systems.

These 3rd party site tests are typically required by:
• Consultants and building envelope specialists
• Project specifications
• Quality assurance protocols

Common testing standards include:
• ASTM E1105 – Water penetration
• ASTM E783 – Air leakage

These tests assess how systems perform after installation, under real site conditions.

Independent testing provides:
• Objective verification of installation quality
• Early identification of deficiencies
• Confidence for owners, consultants, and contractors

It ensures that systems are performing as intended within the overall building envelope.

KONIFER provides technical support and coordination to assist customers during the testing process—while maintaining clear independence from the testing authority.

1. Pre-Test Alignment
• Review test procedures and scope
• Confirm system design intent and critical details
• Coordinate with GC, consultant, and testing agency

2. Technical Input
• Provide system-specific guidance
• Highlight sensitive areas (joints, interfaces, drainage zones)
• Clarify expected performance parameters

3. On-Site Support (As Required)
• Attend testing (where requested or agreed)
• Observe test setup and execution
• Provide real-time technical observations

4. Post-Test Review
• Assist in interpreting test results
• Identify potential root causes of failures
• Provide general recommendations for corrective actions
KONIFER supports the process—but does not control it.

KONIFER DOES NOT:
• Conduct or certify any 3rd party testing
• Control test methods, equipment, or procedures
• Guarantee test outcomes
• Assume responsibility for installation or site conditions

Test Results Are Influenced By:
• Installation quality
• Sealant application and workmanship
• Interface with adjacent trades
• Building movement and site exposure
• Testing methodology and conditions

A failed test does not automatically indicate a product defect.
3rd party testing often reveals:
• Incomplete or inconsistent sealing
• Interface gaps between systems
• Improper installation practices
• Variations in site conditions versus lab testing

KONIFER’s role is to help interpret—not to assume liability.
The following remain the responsibility of others:
• Engagement of certified testing agencies
• Coordination of test logistics and site readiness
• Execution of installation work
• Implementation of corrective actions
Through structured support, KONIFER helps:
• Improve clarity during testing
• Reduce misinterpretation of results
• Support efficient issue resolution
• Maintain alignment between design intent and site execution
We are committed to being a knowledge-driven partner—providing technical insight and practical support throughout the testing process, while maintaining clear and professional boundaries.
