KONIFER INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

PVC Windows | Aluminum Windows | Curtain Wall | Aluminum Storefront Systems

General Requirements (Applicable to All Systems)
Standards & Compliance
All installation shall conform to:
• CSA A440.4 – Window, Door and Skylight Installation
• NAFS (North American Fenestration Standard)
• Applicable local building codes

Pre-Installation Verification
Prior to installation, contractor shall verify:
• Rough opening dimensions
• Structural integrity of substrate
• Plumb, level, and square conditions
• Presence of proper flashing and weather barrier

KONIFER is not responsible for deficient site conditions.

Storage & Handling
• Store materials in dry, covered area
• Protect from impact, moisture, and UV exposure
• Do not stack improperly or overload frames

Tolerances
• Maximum variation: ±3 mm (or as per project spec)
• Openings exceeding tolerance must be corrected prior to installation

Sealants & Materials
• Use only approved sealants compatible with system materials
• Follow manufacturer curing and application guidelines
• Avoid mixing incompatible materials
Positioning
• Install window centered within rough opening
• Maintain uniform clearance on all sides

Shimming
• Place shims at:
o Corners
o Mullion points
o Load-bearing points
• Use non-compressible shims

Anchoring
• Fasten through frame or designated fastening points
• Do not over-tighten (prevents frame distortion)

Insulation
• Fill perimeter gap with:
o Low-expansion foam OR
o Backer rod + sealant

Sealing
• Exterior: weatherproof sealant
• Interior: air barrier seal

Drainage
• Ensure weep holes are:
o Unblocked
o Properly oriented

Final Check
• Verify operation (open/close/lock)
• Ensure no frame warping
Handling
• Protect thermal breaks from damage
• Avoid bending or twisting frames

Frame Installation
• Install plumb, level, and square
• Maintain proper expansion gaps

Anchoring
• Use appropriate fasteners for substrate:
o Concrete
o Steel
o Wood
• Follow engineering fastening pattern

Thermal Isolation
• Ensure no direct metal-to-metal contact with structure unless designed
• Maintain integrity of thermal break

Glazing
• Install IGUs with:
o Setting blocks
o Proper glazing gaskets

Sealants
• Apply perimeter sealant continuously
• Avoid gaps or voids

Performance Check
• Verify air/water tightness
• Confirm hardware alignment
Structural Coordination
• Verify embed plates / anchors
• Confirm structural load transfer points

Layout & Alignment
• Establish control lines
• Maintain vertical and horizontal alignment

Anchoring System
• Install brackets and anchors per engineered shop drawings
• Allow for building movement (thermal & structural)

Mullion Installation
• Install vertical mullions first
• Follow with horizontals

Glazing Installation
• Install glass with:
o Setting blocks
o Pressure plates / caps

Gaskets & Seals
• Ensure continuous gasket installation
• No stretching or gaps

Water Management
• Maintain drainage paths
• Ensure proper flashing and water diversion

Expansion & Movement
• Allow for:
o Thermal expansion
o Building movement

Final Testing
Field testing (if required):
• Water penetration
• Air infiltration
Frame Installation
• Install frames plumb and level
• Secure to structure at designated points

Threshold Installation
• Ensure proper slope for drainage
• Seal continuously

Door Installation
• Install doors aligned within frame
• Adjust hinges for smooth operation

Hardware Installation
Install:
o Closers
o Locks
o Panic devices
• Adjust for proper function

Glazing
• Install glass with proper setting blocks
• Ensure safety glazing where required

Weather Sealing
• Install weatherstripping
• Ensure tight closure

Operation Testing
Check:
• Opening/closing
• Locking
• Automatic closing
KONIFER shall not be responsible for:
• Improper installation by others
• Deficient substrates or structural conditions
• Incompatible materials used by third parties
• Failure to follow installation guidelines
• Lack of maintenance
WINDOW & FACADE PERFORMANCE IS DEPENDENT ON:
• Proper installation
• Building envelope integration
• Ongoing maintenance

Failure in any of the above may impact performance.
